Rootset is an open-source workspace for structured data. Your team can create tables, edit records in the browser, and use the same data through REST and MCP. You run Rootset on your own infrastructure with PostgreSQL.

How your data is organised

Each installation has one workspace. A database groups related tables, and each table has fields that describe the values its records can hold. Creating a database in Rootset does not require another PostgreSQL connection. For example, a product database could have a Products table with a name, stock count and price, plus a Suppliers table linked through a table relation.

Start with a table

  1. Install Rootset and create the first administrator account.
  2. Choose Create database, open it, and choose Create table.
  3. Add fields in Settings → Fields, choosing the types and rules your data needs.
  4. Use Add record or Import records to populate the table. Double-click a cell to edit it.

Work together

Invite people with Admin, Member or Viewer access. Use saved views to return to a useful arrangement of columns, filters and sorting. Row comments keep discussions beside the record, and cell history shows saved changes.

Connect your tools

Use API keys for REST integrations, or connect an MCP client through browser sign-in. The browser, API and MCP share the same data rules and permissions.

Install Rootset

Choose Docker Compose or Towbar for your server.
